La Liga: Zaragoza vs. Deportivo de la Coruña

Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

Zaragoza are in dire straits at the moment and have a very difficult task of maintaining themselves in the top flight of Spanish football. At the beginning of the season no one could have foreseen them being third from bottom and occupying the last relegation spot. They have a quality squad and were aiming to jump back into European football via the UEFA cup or even qualifying for the Champions league, but everything has gone pear shaped.
The rot set in when coach Luis Fernandez was sacked when Zaragoza were still in the top half of the table. Javier Irureta took over but soon relinquished his responsibilities stating that he couldn’t do anything with the present players. Now new coach Manolo Villanova started quite well like his two predecessors, but things have again taken a turn for the worse.
In form Deportivo de la Coruña will be looking for their sixth consecutive victory here against Zaragoza and might even finish the weekend in a UEFA cup place if Sevilla lose to Valladolid. The Andalucian side are three points above Deportivo but the Galician side have beaten Sevilla twice this season so would go sixth. This would be an amazing achievement for Deportivo, who just ten games ago were third from the bottom and staring relegation in the face. Coach Lotina has to be given a lot of credit for pulling his side together, as well as president Lendoiro for not sacking him when he was seriously under pressure. Now the club can hope for greater things after a couple of poor seasons. Last weekend saw them win an emphatic victory by two goals to nil over a very poor Barcelona side, and they now visit Zaragoza with only taking the three points in mind.
I’m going for a draw here. Zaragoza will be fighting for their very survival and know that they have some very complicated games ahead of them, including a renewed Valencia and immanent league champions Real Madrid. I also can’t see Deportivo winning six in a row so a draw and a sharing of the points will probably be your best bet.
Prediction: Draw (1-1)
