This is going to be another great game to watch and very difficult to predict, although Villarreal might have the edge here. Sevilla have lost their last two matches; last weekend they fell by three goals to one away to Real Madrid, and the week before that they succumbed at home to Atlético Madrid by two goals to one. They do seem to be giving away goals lately, and coach Manolo Jimenez will have to shore up the defense in order to ward off Villarreal’s attack. To make matters even worse for Sevilla, their infirmary is getting rather full, and a whole host of first team players are doubtful for this game. They include Luis Fabiano, Chevanton, Perotti, Keita, Kanoute, Poulsen and Escude. One player who is definitely out is Serbian defender Dragutinovic, who is still recovering from an operation.
Villarreal meanwhile are riding high in second place in the table after beating Atlético Madrid last weekend and are now a point above Barcelona and fifteen points in front of Sevilla. They travel to the Sanchez Pizjuan stadium without any injuries of importance and will be looking to repeat last season’s victory there when they beat Sevilla by a goal to nil. The two sides faced each other earlier on in the season at Villarreal’s ground and the locals also earned a huge victory, winning the game three goals to two.
Villarreal will I think just hedge this match and so I’m going for an away win, but it will be a close call. The last time Sevilla lost three games in a row was at the end of September when the squad was at a really low point after the death of their companion Antonio Puerta, and they will be doing everything in their power on Sunday to get the three points to continue in a UEFA cup spot. However, if their injury worries are confirmed I don’t see how they can put up a great fight.
Prediction: Away win (0-1)
