As we wrapped-up the 2nd round of the NCAA we once again saw some very exciting games. We also saw some upsets (of course). Thie biggest upset of all would have to be Georgetown losing to Davidson. It isn’t just that #2 seed Hoyas lost to the #10 seed Davidson but it’s how they lost to them.
Georgetown was in complete control of this game. They had it going from the outside and they were having their way inside. The Hoyas were winning by 17 points in the 2nd half! It looked like they would roll into the Sweet 16 and pose a huge threat to any team that ran across them.
But somehow, someway, Davidson came roaring back and actually looked like they might run away with it in the final moments. But that wasn’t to be either.
Davidson won the game by four points. And they ill now be on to the Sweet 16.
No other games were really all that big of a surprise. The Butler Bulldogs (seeded 7th) took the Tenessee Volunteers to over time but if the Bulldogs won that really wouldn’t have been an upset.
Perhaps the only other surprise on the day (when all the excitment finally died away) was the fact that Louisvill absolutely blew-out Oklahoma. In this game, when it mattered, this looked like a good Division I team taking on a mediocre Division II team. It really was that bad at times.
So the stage is set for the Sweet 16 match-ups next Thursday and Friday. The next couple of days we’ll take a look at the match-ups that will take place on each day. There are many good ones and the games promise to be exciting all the way through the Final Four and beyond.
