Let the Games Begin… Time for March Madness

Posted on | March 17, 2008 | No Comments

Well, here we go.

The brackets have been released and we’re all set for another three weeks of March Madness. Can’t you just hear the cheers from 65 colleges across the country?

But not every school is happy right now. Some schools feel like they got cheated out of a chance to go to the NCAA Tournament.

There are a handful of these teams who can at least make a shakey case for making it into the Tourney but at least 3 teams that really had no business being in the Big Dance at all.

Those three teams are St. Joe’s, Arizona, and especially Kentucky.

St. Joe’s made it into the tourney over a bubble team, Syracuse, eventhough their RPI was similar, their strength of schedule was much weaker, and they come from a weaker conference. And, oh yeah, they also lost to SU this year.

Arizona made it into the Tourney despite a poor conference record, losing twice and finishing behind Arizona St. (a team that missed the tourney) and having a poor overall record.

And then there’s Kentucky the biggest joke of the field. How can an 18-13 team, a team that lost to teams with an RPI in the 200s, a team that just lost to Georgia (yes, Georigia who won the embarrassingly weak SEC but barely finished over .500 – even with 4 straight wins), and a team that had a worse RPI than about a dozen other teams who missed the tournament.

The message here is if a team wants to mame the tournament then they better qualify convincingly. Because if they leave it up to the committee then they are leaving their fate upto people who obviously don’t have a clue and certainly don’t folloe the guidelines they claim they follow.

But enough complaining. Now its time to get ready for some fun. Tommorrow we’ll beging breaking down the brackets and before we know it, the game will begin.
