Jockey Barry Geraghty has said he would not swap Bobs Worth for anyone else ahead of the Gold Cup on Friday afternoon and thinks he is the one to beat at the Cheltenham Festival.
The Nicky Henderson-trained horse hasn’t been in action at all this year, but neither the trainer nor Geraghty seem to think that is a big factor.
They clearly feel as though he is coming into this one fresh, rather than unprepared. Geraghty has already claimed the Arkle Trophy and the Queen Mother Champion Chase on Simonsig and Sprinter Sacre, two horses trained by Henderson, so will be full of confidence.
The jockey knows a good horse from Seven Burrows when he sees one and he thinks that Bobs Worth is up there with the best of them.
He said: “I think it’s irrelevant (that he hasn’t had a run). He’s had no hold-ups. He scoped badly but he never missed a day of work.
“He worked at Kempton a couple of weeks ago and went really well, he seems in great shape and I wouldn’t swap him. Myself and my brother bought him as a yearling and Nicky bought him off us so I’ve known him a long time.”
There is clearly a strong relationship between Bobs Worth and Geraghty and the jockey is confident he can claim the biggest prize of them all at Cheltenham on Friday afternoon.
It should, as ever, be a cracking race that attracts the biggest horse racing fans and even those who just love to see a big sporting occasion.
Henderson has a record like no other at Cheltenham and Geraghty is a man that has relished and is made for the big occasion, so could this be their year?
Well yes, we think so and if you want some those after Cheltenham 2013 tips will see that Bobs Worth is an 11/4 shot and you have to say that isn’t bad value for the favourite.
With just hours to go, it is time to get your bets on for this eagerly anticipated Gold Cup.
