NFL Football: Divisional Playoffs – My Saturday Picks

Posted on | January 12, 2008 | No Comments

Finally the talking has to stop and the playing will begin.

Here are my thoughts and picks on Saturday’s games…

Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packes

Last year Brett Favre was thinking about retiring. I didn’t think he would because he was so close to breaking so many passing records. Then he came out and said he was coming back because he had so much young talent on this Packers team. I laughed. Everyone laughed. What a ridiculous statement to make! Everyone knew he was just coming back to break the records. I was completely wrong!

Favre does have a great team loaded with young talent. Will Brett let his team fall to the Seahawks after making it this far? I highly doubt it.

However, if the Seahawks can get a consistent, heavy pass rush on Favre then they might be able to disrupt the Packers offense.

But I think the Packers will get their points and I don’t think Seattle will be able to score enough points on the Packers. They won’t be able to run the ball and Green Bay’s corners (Woodson and ) will be able to hold down the Seahawks’ passing game.

The one concern I have is the youth on the Packer’s team. If this game is close in the 4th quarter, I like the Seahawks. But I think it will be over earlier than that.

My Pick: Packers 27-16

Jacksonville Jaguars at New England Patriots

This is the game that I look the most forward to watching.

Many so-called “experts” think Jacksonville can give the Pats a run and some are even picking the Jags to win.

The only way the Jags can win this game is if the weather helps them out. Right now the forecast is calling for a 0% chance of precipitation and just a light breeze. What does that mean? That the Pats will be able to throw the ball as much as they want, which will probably be about 9 out of 10 plays.

If the Pats play like they did back in October then this game will be over by halftime. Mark it down. The Jags just don’t have enough to stop the Pats or to score with them.

However, if the Pats play like they did the last month of the season then the Jags can win this game.

I think teams have figured out how to at least slow down the Pats a little bit. More importantly, I think the Pats’ defense is suspect. Teams have figured out how to attack their defense and the old Pats linebackers are getting worn down as the season grows older and older.

Will the Jags have enough in the end? Honestly, I hope so. But I doubt it. The Jags running game will keep the game fairly low scoring but it still won’t be a very close game.

My Pick: Pats 28-17
