NFL Football: Divisional Playoffs – My Picks and a Review
Posted on | January 8, 2008 | No Comments
On Sunday there were some surprises in the games. Overall the Bucs and the Chargers didn’t perform as well as I thought they would, while the Giants and the Titans performed better than I thought they could.
New York Giants at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
My Pick: Buccaneers 27-16
I didn’t have any faith in the Giants defense. I didn’t have any faith in Eli Manning to be able to move the ball against the NFL’s #1 defense. Well, the Giants’ defense was stout against the Buccaneers and Eli Manning played very well in earning his first playoff victory.
Now the Giants are moving on to Dallas to play the Cowboys for the third time this season (the Cowboys won the first 2). The Giants have confidence, the Giants defense is playing very well, and the Giants have won 8 straight games on the road.
But doesn’t this sound familiar? Aren’t these the same types of things that we were hearing several weeks ago when the Giants were hosting the Cowboys to see who would take over as the NFC East leader.
This game has absolutely nothing to do with the Giants. If the Cowboys have TO and they have their A game on then the Cowboys will win.
But the Giants played very well on Sunday, though Tampa Bay was without some key pieces including Joey Galloway. But we’ll have plenty of time to discuss all of this in the coming week.
The Result: Giants 24-14
Tennessee Titans at San Diego Chargers
My Pick: Chargers 34-10
The Titans were game in this one and the Chargers played a pretty bad first half. If this is how the Chargers play next week in Indianapolis then they’ll get blown out by the Colts.
But in the second half the Chargers played much better and came back from trailing at halftime.
If the Titans hope to be more competitive next year then they better find a passing game. Vince Young is a great athlete but he’s yet to show that he can do anything with his arm.
Meanwhile, the Chargers better get LT going if they want to stay close to the Colts next weekend. The performance they gave on Sunday won’t be enough to even stay in the same building with Indy.
